Practice Areas
I primarily practice criminal law, with criminal cases comprising sixty percent of my total cases. I represent defendants in state, local, juvenile and federal courts. Being a former Assistant District Attorney for three years, I have a slight advantage over many criminal defense attorneys, in that I know, firsthand, exactly what it takes to prosecute a case. I know when the evidence the state has against a defendant is strong enough to get a conviction. I also recognize quickly and efficiently when there are weaknesses in the state case, even if they are trying to convince me otherwise. When I have been retained or appointed on a criminal case, as soon as Discovery is given, I am tearing apart the evidence to see if the state has a strong case against this defendant. Who are the victims and witnesses? Are they credible or a potential bias witness for the state? Was the search unreasonable and so egregious that a motion to suppress would be granted? Were any of the Defendant’s constitutional rights violated, i.e. searches, confessions, Miranda warning. Every case is different. Although some cases will have similar facts, it’s very unlikely that two cases are exactly the same. You have to individualize each case. And advise you client accordingly. You are advising the client, the ultimate decisions (whether to plea or go to trial) should always be the client’s.

  • The other forty percent of my practice is concentrated in the area of family law, where I handle contested and uncontested divorces, child custody, adoptions and child support cases. Again, I am blessed and privileged to have gained the knowledge of family functions and dynamics as a practicing Social Worker for the Department of Human Resources for eight years. This knowledge helps me in my practice because many times the DHR are involved in family law cases, i.e. custody of children and child support.

  • In Alabama, child custody and visitation requires consideration of the best interests of the child. These cases are very emotionally charged and time sensitive. A comprehensive assessment is necessary to determine the legal and factual defenses involving your case. This area of the law requires knowledgeable, compassionate, and responsive representation that my office provides. I will diligently work to obtain favorable outcomes for my clients while maintaining the sensitivity and attention necessary to ensure that the needs and interests of your children remain paramount.
